We are now into the Autumn and it’s definitely getting a bit nippy of an evening! I held out putting the heating on only last night (30th September) and all of a sudden, the dogs were happy to lie in their baskets which were almost under the radiator!
About this time of year everyone is already thinking of Fireworks night and if you visit the tips page, you’ll see this year’s fireworks special. It really is important if your dog is particularly sensitive you need to be thinking about your fireworks management plan now – not the day before the 5th November. I have some Dorwest Valerian products in stock at the moment so contact me for details.
September was, for most of us, a sad month with the loss of HM The Queen. My daughter, Julia, and I went to London for the funeral and watched on the screens in Hyde Park as well as hearing the gun salute in person. Boy, those guns are loud! And I saw loads of dogs in the crowds. I’m not sure that I could have taken my two with me (we walked and queued 17kms) as they would have been exhausted by the end of the day and all they would have seen was lots of legs. However, the crowds were all very respectful, standing for the hymns, singing the National Anthem with the new words, waving flags and generally being well behaved. We had a wander along to see the floral tributes in Green Park before heading back home. It was a long day but I can say I was there to pay my respects.
In fact, the sombre atmosphere really seemed to catch everyone by surprise. Even the dogs were a little off their food. My friend, Carol of The Walkabout Way wrote a brilliant article about the mood and how it affects dogs as well as humans. I shared it on the Facebook page if you want to have a look again.
It was Kathy’s birthday on the 16th so we decided to have a day trip to the beach at West Wittering. Even Edie, who really doesn’t like the seaside, had a run about and a paddle. It was so good to see her having fun. And we had a good time too blowing all the cobwebs away in the fresh sea air.
Bookings are now going ahead for the group classes and I have now got a venue for the social sessions courtesy of Cranleigh Rugby Club. These will be on Wednesday afternoons and dates will be announced soon on the Facebook page.
Finally I’m launching my new dog walking service. I’ve connected with a dog walker in the Cranleigh area and we are going to do a collaboration with me recommending her for walking and her recommending me for training. The service I will be offering will be a training and walking service. Only one dog at a time, I’ll be working on their lead work. No off leads, no running free. Just teaching your dog to walk nicely and stop being reactive to other dogs when you walk them. If you need a training walk send me an email and we can discuss what you need.
